The unknown story of Cassius Marcellus Clay

Cassius Marcellus Clay is a famous name in the Kentucky area for several reasons. The Cassius Marcellus Clay that has been lost to current history was a pre civil war abolitionist so committed to the cause that he was once described as having a white skin and a black heart. On many occasions the man was an embarassment, he used his pistols, knives, and fighting abilities against those he disagreed with. And he was very good at fighting. He published his abolitionist views all over Kentucky and was forced to move because of them. He fought in the Mexican American war, and in the civil war, attaining the rank of general.  Reportedly when he was on his death bed in his late 80s he amused himself by shooting flies off the bedroom wall with his pistols.

The Clay name was taken by a freed slave, whose descendants in a later generation gave birth to a son who  was given the name of Cassius Marcellus Clay in honor of the civil war abolitionist. That name was special. The man who carried it became a boxer, won a medal at the Olympic games, turned professional, and fought his way to the top. He has been lionized by the media, and by politicians. And he also became special for many of the same reasons.

We now know this man as Muhammad Ali. In the mid 1960s he refused the draft, spent time away from boxing and then converted to a Muslim. He also became a three time world heavyweight champion along the way.  His name, or his name for the first 20 plus years of his life is not so well known.

The name he was given at birth conveyed a special meaning, and his namesake was a early fighter for black civil rights. To discard this birth  name was his choice. I think the discarded birth  name is well worth remembering.

The Continuing Media Lynching Of Toby Keith

Max Blumenthal writing for the Huffington Post published a feature column last week with a not very flattering depiction of Toby Keith. Mr. Blumenthal is of the opinion that the song "beer for my horses" sung with ardent liberal icon Willie Nelson in the earlier part of the decade, advocates the lynching of blacks and Jews. To emphasize his point the author includes pictures of blacks and one Jewish man who had been lynched some 80 plus years ago. Here is the link in case any of you may have missed it:

Mr. Blumenthal has a new column at the Huffington Post continuing on with his previous theme of Toby Keith singing racially tinged songs. He then stereotypes Toby Keith as a typical Caucasian. There is no doubt left that the author is playing the race card loud and clear. The question is, why? This song has been around for the better part of the decade. Just 90 days before election time, the lyrics to this song somehow twists the authors shorts into a spectacular wedgie of perceived racism. Comments made by Toby Keith  on a recent show have the author in a state of literary apoplexy. Support for Toby Keith from his earlier article leaves the author dumbfounded, he refers to those who support Toby Keith as right wing trolls.

To give Obama credit he has tried to distance himself from this far left loony fringe and their politics of personal destruction. Unfortunately they insist on viewing the simplest forms of expression through the lens of their favortie obsession, racism. I hope readers will take a moment to view his article and forward it to every voter possible. It will be interesting to see if a significant number of other Americans share the views of this author. The Liberal Lynching of Toby Keith

Published on the on the Huffington Post as a featured column,  is a piece by Max Blumenthal concerning Toby Keith and the song Toby wrote some time back, "beer for my horses".  Mr. Blumenthal claims that the song written by Toby, and sung with Willie Nelson is pro-lynching. Included with the column by Blumenthal is photos of black people hanging from trees, along with a Jewish man who met the same fate. The author dissects the lyrics and suggests to the reader that Toby Keith has a pro-lynching mentality against blacks and Jews. And that Toby is starting his pro-lynching tour. Here is the link to the Huffington post article:

I encourage each of you to read this article. It is a master smear piece of distortion, and one of the most hideous examples of the politics of personal destruction I have ever seen. This article should be circulated to everyone to read. And if you do stop by the Huffington Post to check out the article, take a moment to read the comments by the users. You can decide for yourself the level of sanity possessed by these people.
